Overview In the last module, you completed your Emotional Intelligence self-assessment. If you have not yet downloaded the file, Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment Scoring Download Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment Scoring, you will need to do so now. Ask your instructor if you need assistance locating the file. For this assignment, you’ll calculate your own scores from the assessment for each sub-scale and the total EI score. You’ll then use those results to respond to the following reflection questions: • How did you feel about your score on the self-assessment? Was the result a surprise to you, or is it what you expected? Consider your sub-scores on the components of this individual EI trait assessment (I.e., Perception of Emotion, Managing Own Emotions, Utilizing Emotion, Managing Others’ Emotions) • Now consider how your EI assessment results may connect to the emotional intelligence concepts introduced in the YouTube video,What is Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in the Workplace. The assessment you completed covers four EI components – Perception/appraisal of emotions (Self-Awareness), Managing one’s own emotions (Self-Management), Utilization of emotions to solve problems (Self-Management & Motivation), and Managing other’s emotions (Social Awareness & Relationship management). Most of the ‘uncategorized’ items in the instrument relate to optimism, which is assessed more narrowly by other EI scales. There are some videos that you may find helpful to deepen your knowledge on emotional intelligence. • Which of the four components of EI (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management) seems to be your greatest strength? How might you use that strength in your work for this class? How might you use that strength to be effective in your professional life or at work? • Which of the four components of EI seems to be your area of weakness?
